Dear sir: First off, were you there near Maiziers at the time you speak of?
I was in the area in October, 1944. I was wounded near Maiziers, and that ended my fighting days. I was in B Co., 357 Reg., 90th.Div.
We were out on patrol one night, and found large square holes in the ground, about 30x30, and we couldn't see the bottoms of them, due to darkness. There was also an overhead system of cables and towers, with coal buckets or dirt carriers hanging from them.
I have always wondered about those large holes in the ground, and what they were intended for.
Do you know anything about them?
I have written up my travels in France. I don't have dates, times, map co-ordinates, maps, nor many town names, since I was a rifleman on the front lines, and didn't have the time or opportunity to write the info down, for which I have been castigated by several officers from the Div. H.Q.
I am not familiar with the information you asked for, but can send you some info from where I was, near Maiziers.
Yours: Rusty Jones/ Jas. Hammitt
